Milago

The Milago

The Milago was one of the first new high rises to be completed during the recent condo boom in Austin. The Milago reminds me of an Irish setter: appealing but a little wild and unruly. The first residents lived next to a construction site, what is now the fantastic Mexican American Cultural Center and also The Shores. Little homes on Rainey were either removed or reinvented. From the view of its recent residents, the hood has really come together over the last several years. It’s become a great after-hours bar and restaurant area suited to casual urbanites. Despite being so close to the downtown business district, there’s still an inviting Austin feel surrounding The Milago.

The flow and design of The Milago reads more like an apartment than a condo. The halls are narrow and the finish out is okay, but not luxurious. There are two views from the 7th floor on up: .Lake Lady Bird or Hwy I-35. Some of the residents complain of neighbor noise. Still, they can come home from work, grab a kayak and paddle their way to nirvana. The Hike & Bike Trail on the lake is The Milago’s backyard. And that means more to residents of The Milago than the finest kitchen cabinetry.
